SONCAP Certification 

 

 

Introduction 
Is responsible for the formulation and implementation of Nigeria's imports of manufactured goods and their quality standards of government. To ensure that the control product line with the implementation of the approved technical standards or other international standards to protect Nigerian consumers from unsafe products or products that do not meet the criteria of damage, the Nigerian National Standards Board decided to export to the country's control of product implementation mandatory conformity assessment procedures before shipment (hereinafter referred to as SONCAP). 
SONCAP consists of two phases. The first stage is called "Product Certification" (Product Certification), only applies to first export to Nigeria of a particular class of control products. Product certification by exporters receive "Certificate" (Product Certificate), Certificate valid for up to three years. The second stage, known as "Nigeria National Bureau of Standards certification mandatory conformity assessment procedures" (hereinafter referred to as SONCAP certification), applicable to a number of goods before shipment. Both are certified in Nigeria National Bureau of Standards in the Office of the exporting country (SON Country Office) process. 
SONCAP certificate is regulated products in Nigeria, go through customs clearance procedures necessary statutory instruments, the lack of control products SONCAP certificate will result in delay or denial of clearance into the Nigerian domestic market. Particular note is that, SONCAP on the regulation of products required by the Government of Nigeria and other import procedures remain in force.

1. All electrical and electronic products that could be used by members of the public whether in their homes or otherwise eg in residential, office, retail, leisure etc environments. Examples include, but are not limited to, household appliances, IT products, communication products, lighting products, audio-visual products

Principal certification 
Category: 
Two-step process includes: 
1, Product Certification: Certification; 
2, SONCAP Certification: SONCAP compulsory certification. 
First product certification, only apply to the initial export to Nigeria of a particular type of control products. Product certification by exporters will receive product certificate (Product Certificate), the certificate is valid for three years. After, you can apply to open "M" form (Form "M"). 
The second step SONCAP Compulsory Certification, is applicable to a number of goods before shipment. 
SONCAP Certificate (SONCAP Certificate) is to control the products in the Nigerian Customs for customs clearance necessary statutory instruments, the lack of control products SONCAP certificate will result in delay or customs clearance may be refused entry. Need special attention, in addition to handling product certification and SONCAP mandatory certification procedures, control products must be imported in any other existing procedures, such as pre-shipment inspection (PSI). Or, apply for a compulsory product certification and accreditation procedures SONCAP not a substitute for the Nigerian government requirements as any other provisions of the current import procedures. 
SONCAP product exporters to control access to SONCAP certificate of two ways. Exporters can choose according to their own national conditions. 
The first method is referred to as "a factual basis to declare" (Substantiated Declaration), for its standard products to fully comply with laws and regulations of the exporters in Nigeria. Exporters must be before shipment to Nigeria National Bureau of Standards in the exporting country offices to submit inspection reports (Test Report) and a product certification application form (Request for Product Certification, RFPC) a. 
After the adoption by the review inspection reports, the importer will receive product certificate valid for up to three years, since the test report issued by the date. Since then, a number of controls in each product before shipping, the exporter shall submit the completed shipping office applications for accreditation (Request for Shipment Certification) and a final invoice (Final Invoice) a. 
SONCAP certificate will be issued to exporters in order to go through customs procedures. 
The second method, known as "unconfirmed report" (Unsubstantiated Declaration), applicable to not submit a survey report based on facts (Substantiating Test Report) exporters. Exporters have to get in touch with the office, which the exporters can control a particular product testing laboratories authorized contact. Products passing inspection, the exporter shall submit inspection reports Office (Test Report) an application form and product certification (Request for Product Certification, RFPC, see table) a.

SONCAP processing method 
SONCAP product exporters to control access to SONCAP certificate of two ways. Exporters can choose according to their own national conditions.
